I chose this photo because the kid was giving it, and it was really nice and sweet.
I liked the composition of this photo because it is not really close to the people, so it shows the whole scene, and an up close photo of a riot police holding the heart shaped balloon.
I think this photo made the cut of the top 40 photos ever because of how sweet the kid is to the riot police.

I chose this photo because it is really heart touching and shows how much respect people have.
I liked the composition of this photo because it is an overhead shot, showing more than just one person/thing.
I think this made the top 40 because it is sad, but makes an impact on your emotions.

I chose this photo because it shows love, and is a protest against the (Vietnam) war.
I liked the composition of this photo because it was taken from a head shot level, so it is as if you are right there looking at what is happening.
I think this made the top 40 because of the flower, which i think is a symbol of love and peace, and how innocent she looks and how scary the guards look.

Harry Morey Callahan was born on October 22, 1912 and died on March 15, 1999. He was born in Detroit, Michigan and he worked in Chrysler when he was a young man. He then left the company to study engineering at Michigan State University. However he dropped out, returning to Chrysler and joined its camera club. Harry began teaching himself photography in 1938. He became friends with Todd Webb who also wanted to become a photographer. In 1941 he was given a talk by Ansel Adams, who inspired him to take his work seriously. Harry and Todd visited Rocky Mountain State Park, but came back without any photographs. In 1946 he was invited to teach photography at the Institute of Design in Chicago by Laszlo Moholy-Nagy. He moved to Rhode Island in 1961 to establish a photography program at the Rhode Island School of Design, where he taught until he retired in 1977.

The Camera

The Camera:
1.) Inside a completely dark room, a tiny hole is made in one wall. Through the hole light is focused, and the outside scene is projected (Upside Down) on the opposite wall. It is achieved by making a small hole in one wall, and allowing light to pass through it.

2.) High quality glass lenses.

3.) A glass lens, film, and a dark box.

4.) A lens, dark box, and film.

5.) An electronic sensor called a CCD.

Camera Modes:
6.) The difference between Auto Mode & Program Mode is on Auto mode you cannot control flash and exposure, and with Program Mode you can control flash and a few other settings.

7.) Portrait Mode is used to attempt to blur out the background. How It Works: The camera will try to use the fastest available lens setting (Aperture.)

8.) Sports Mode is used to freeze motion. How It Works: The camera will use the highest shutter speed possible.

The Half Press:
9.) You should use the Half press if what your trying to take a picture of is off-centre, and your trying to get the camera focused.

Controlling Flash:
10.) Disabled Flash: There is no flash.

11.) Auto-Flash: Will automatically fire if the camera thinks it needs more light.

Introduction To Exposure:
12.) If there is too much light then the picture will be washed out.

13.) If there is not enough light then the picture will be too dark.

The Universal Stop:
14.) A "Stop" is a relative change in the brightness of light.

15.) The planet is 1 "Stop" brighter.

16.) The planet is 1 "Stop" brighter.

Shutters and Aperture:
17.) A longer shutter speed gives you more light to the film.

18.) A shorter shutter speed gives less light to the film.

19.) The aperture controls the amount of light that enters the camera.

20.) To increase the amount of light you should use Smaller F-stops numbers.

The Camera

SLR- A camera that typically uses a mirror and a prism system, that lets the photographer see through the lens and see exactly what will be captured, opposite to viewfinder cameras where the image could be very different from what will be captured.

Permit - To give consent to (someone) to do something.

Refinement - The improvement of something by the making of small changes.

Optical - Of or relating to sight, especially in relation to the physical action of light.

Inside Of A Camera

Aperture - A space where light passes in an optical or photographic instrument, especially the opening where light enters a camera.

Shutter - A device that lets light pass for a certain period of time, to capture a permanent image of a scene.

Exposure - The amount of light allowed to fall on each area unit of a photographic medium during the process of taking a photograph.

Depth Of Field - The distance between the nearest and the furthest objects that give an image judged to be in focus in a camera.

F-stop - A name to show a camera's aperture opening, and a flash units power level.

Focal Length - The distance between the center of a lens or curved mirror and its focus.

First Photos - (Best & Worst)

The Worst Photo

This is the photo i took that i think is the worst. The reason i chose this one as the worst is because of the blurrieness and bad lighting. I think the photo is too blurry and too bright; he is also not facing the camera. The camera doesn't look focused on anything in the photo either. There are also a lot of things in the background.

The Best Photo

This is the photo i took that i think is the best photo. It shows his face and it doesn't have a lot of things in the background. It focuses on the main thing and it doesn't have any blurriness. The camera looks focused on him and the background doesn't really make the picture worse, it is better than a blank white.
